El Salvador, the tiny country in Central America has many tourist options to show you. The places we present here are perfectly safe and are visited by many tourists all year long. There is an undisclosed paradise in El Salvador waiting for you to discover it.

Tazumal

This impressive Mayan ruin is estimated to have been first settled in 5000 BC and abandoned in 1200 BC. The entire complex was excavated between the 1940s and 1950s and a lot of remains are still uncovered. The name "Tazumal" means ‘pyramid where the victims were burned.’

This place is a must-visit. You will learn about the Mayan culture when visiting the onsite museum.

Suchitoto

Suchitoto is a colonial city and cultural hub of the country. It is located 30 miles (50 km) from the capital city, San Salvador. You can walk around the city and enjoy the cobbled streets. Art and food festivals happen here all the time. 

Bring your binoculars since this place is a migration site for more than 200 species of birds.  

Montecristo National Park

In Montecristo National Park, you will enjoy high peaks, low valleys, and a thick canopy of forests. There is a tour designed to make you explore the tropical rainforest. Occasionally, you will get to see rare animals, such as anteaters, spider monkeys, pumas, coyotes, and agoutis and nearly 300 species of birds, including green toucans and quetzals. 

Puerta del Diablo

Puerta del Diablo is a site full of horror stories. Named "The Devil´s Door", it is a rock formation that offers an awesome view of El Salvador's landscape. Things to do here include hiking, zip lining, caving, canopy tours, and rappelling. 

Coatepeque Caldera

This is a lake that used to be a volcanic caldera that formed tens of thousands of years ago. The lake is one of the largest in the country. Surrounded by steep mountains, its waters reach depths of 120 m.  

The highway on the crater's ridge offers great panoramic views. You can also enjoy the waters by renting a kayak or boat.
