Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood, St. Petersburg, Russia

The Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood is known by several names including Cathedral of the Ressurection of Christ, Church on Spilled Blood, and Temple of the Savior on Spilled Blood. But regardless of how it is called, this church is truly a breathtaking sight that is also rich in history.

Through the efforts of the Royal family and members of the private sector, funds were raised for the construction of the Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood. It was during the reign of Alexander III in 1883 when construction began. The church was actually built to honour Alexander II who is remembered for liberating the serfs and for dying at the hands of the terrorists.
