Types of fishing

There are several types of recreational and commercial fishing techniques. Few of them are:

Trapping: It is a technique when a trap such as a dam, basket or a weir is created and placed in the river. These traps either increase the visibility of fish or trap them directly. This is a universal method of fishing with several maneuvers and adaptations respective to the regions and topography.

Angling: This is a classic way of fishing with the help of a rod, which has a hook or an angle attached to it, with a sinker to help it remain underwater. This is the most widespread line, hook and sinker collection used from primeval times. The hook generally has a lure or a bait fish to attract fish. Angling can again be categorized into line fishing or rod angling. Other common ways that are classified into angling are droplining, jigging, longlining, trolling, handlining, casting, fly fishing, kayak fishing, kite fishing and banking.

Netting: It is the most common form of commercial or subsistence fishing with the help of nets. In this huge nets are either dropped and lifted, or strewn from a cliff, or taken to mid sea with the help of boats etc. Any method involving a net to bait fish is known as netting and the varieties are Chinese fishing, cast net, ghost net, drift net etc. The turnout of this technique is usually in huge quantities for selling purposes.

Spear fishing is also on primordial technique where a spear or similar likes a bow, harpoon, Hawaiian slings, pole spears are used to target and catch visible fish. It requires sheer skill and precision.
